Best Wide Shoes For Kids

A question I’ve often seen repeated online is, “My child is 11 and has wide feet, what are the best types of shoes for kids with wide feet?”

Well, if your child has wide feet, Crocs are one of the more forgiving brands when it comes to fitting wide width feet. If your child is borderline between normal width and wide width feet, make sure to try them out because they may be a more perfect fit than you have been able to get with other shoe brands.

Not the most stylish of recommendations, however, comfort usually lacks style.. Hope this helps.

Guadalupe Center gives away new shoes to school kids

This nice charity provides new shoes for kids in need.

Many of the children receiving the new shoes, said Aviles, come from families living at or below the poverty level. Without the center’s help, they would be forced to go back to school wearing old shoes they have outgrown, often by two or three sizes.

They also make sure to size the childrens’ feet properly and provide wide shoes when they are needed!

Once they finished their lunch, the children trooped back onto the bus, each clutching a shoebox. Herman Rito-Diaz, age 9, showed off his prize — New Balance Achievas, size 4E, extra wide. The staff did one last head count, and the kids, and their shoes, headed back to Immokalee, ready to start off the new school year on the right foot.

A great charity giving away such an important thing is a nice reminder of what people can do for each other.

An anonymous reviewer from Pennsylvania writes…

Simply amazing shoe! I purchased these shoes about a year ago to replace an older pair of dress shoes. After my previous experiences of hunting through stores and the agonizing periods of “break-ins” of new dress shoes that still left my feet in pain, these shoes were simply amazing! They had a broken in feel when they were brand new! They are more comfortable than my running shoes and just as classy looking as the best of my dress shoes. For my job I am on my feet a lot and these shoes have never let me down. Whether it was long walks in the city or just standing on concrete all day long, these shoes came through for me when no other shoe did.

Carly in Buffalo, NY reviews this shoes…

I thought these would appear old-ladyish but wanted to give them a try – it’s really hard to find navy leather! I love them and this is probably my 10th try. The platform and the stacked heel give them a modern feel. They are super comfy and fit true to size. Navy quest is now over – on to finding green shoes!

Vivo Barefoot Shoes Are Perfect for Kids

A new brand of shoes is available that will allow kids’ feet to develop naturally while still protecting peet from injury. Going barefoot is the best course of action for kids but it is not always practical, so check out Vivo Barefoot Shoes today.

“From a functional perspective, shoes shouldn’t be necessary,” says O’Neill. “In fact, there are more likely to be disadvantages and problems from wearing shoes than not wearing them – among them, deformation caused by a poor fit, ingrown toenails, and athlete’s foot. But you have to consider the environment the child is in. Let’s be honest. Do you want your child walking on the streets or in the park barefoot, where there might be dog poo, dirt and possible hazards like glass?”

This is precisely the niche that a newly launched range of kids’ ‘barefoot shoes’, Vivo Barefoot, aims to fill. “Children get the health benefits of going barefoot with the protection of normal shoes,” says MD Galahad Clark, who is a descendent of the shoemaking Clarks family. The shoes, with sizes ranging from 18 months (the age from which most babies are walking) to seven years, are wide, light and flexible with a 3mm puncture-resistant sole.

Sketchers Womens Walking Shoe

I was checking out the, Skechers Women’s Step-UP Sneaker on Amazon.com earlier today and it looked interesting So naturally I went and checked out the reviews, when I came across a very interesting one by an anonymous user, (I will assume this was a woman, as they’re women’s shoes.. but hey you never know). Anyways she starts by saying these shoes are really cute & talks about getting compliments on them all the time. I immediately thought, oh blah, just another fluff review but then she threw in the curve ball. She says,

1) The back of the left shoe cuts into my heel, making it somewhat raw and red after a day at the office (light walking, nothing major). 2) THEY STINKKKK!!!! These shoes don’t “breathe” and WILL make your feet smell terribly (if worn without socks, which is really the only way you can wear these), no matter if you have problems with foot odor or not.

Haha, the things women will sacrifice for a cute shoe. She later goes on to suggest some special socks to wear to cut down on the funky odor. I just thought this was interesting. I guess I’m strange. :) Later.

Here’s a link to check out the product, and the reviews are lower on the page.

[ABC News] Girlfriends: Hip wearable shoes

This article has great tips for finding the right pair of shoes for you.

* Did you know that you can figure out if a shoe is comfortable by stepping on the outside of it without putting your foot inside? That is a good way to measure comfort.
* Know your shoe sizes– yes, plural! Shoe size charts only measure length of your foot, but a healthy shoe fits its width and height, too
* If you have a high arch, look for shoes with a small heel and good arch support to provide relief from foot pain.
* Avoid backless shoes (like mules) — they cause pain in toes from gripping with your toes to keep the shoes on.
* Shock absorbers aren’t just for your car. Look for shoes with rubber or leather soles to prevent feet from feeling the total impact of bumps
* Look at the inside of the shoes to make sure there are no uncovered seams or pieces that will rub against your foot.
* Look at the material of the shoe– leather and suede provide the most flexibility and comfort because the material shapes to your foot
* Don’t be an “early bird shoe shopper”! Your feet are the largest in the afternoon or evening, so avoid getting too small of a shoe during the morning
* Listen to your feet! If the shoe doesn’t feel right in the store, chances are slim that “breaking in” will do the trick.
* Wear a variety of shoes. For example, always wearing heels will shorten your Achilles, but I you alternate with flats and gym shoes, this often can be prevented.
* People always assume flats are best when you have foot problems; however flats often have no arch support or support in the sole and aggravate heel and arch pain.
* Think roomy toes, good arch support and not pitched too far forward.
* If you want height, wear more a platform shoe with good arch support as opposed to stilettos.
* Here are some tips on good shoes for different conditions:
   * Pain in heels: need good arch support, avoid flats
   * Pain in balls of feet: stiff soled shoes with arch support, avoid high heels
   * Pain from bunions, hammertoes: deep wide toes box or open toes.

And has some shoes that meet all these criteria:

* Clarks Passion $99; dark brown heel, double strap Mary Jane dress shoe from The Walking Company
* Merona Red Patent Mertie $24.99; red patent heel from Target www.target.com Blowfish Hadassa $54.95, caramel colored, closed toe wedge from Famous Footwear
* Sofft Sabatina $99.95; dressy sandal from The Walking Company and Carson’s
* Sofft Nude $89.95; patent leather pumps with wooden heels from Nordstrom
* Black strappy sandals in patent leather and elastic bands $49.95 ; from DSW
* Steven Intyce boot $129; wedge heel built into boot from Nordstrom
* Dansko clogs in every color and design for those workers on their feet all day: restaurant workers, chefs, doctors, nurses, etc. Dr. Weil says these clogs are stylish and extremely comfortable. Range in price from $110 on up. She says you can pay less for other similar brands such as Alpro and others on line.

All about Wide Walking Shoes

Wide Walking Shoes that are comfortable, can essentially be the difference in whether or not you get the necessary exercise your body craves.

What is the difference between a wide shoe and a regular shoe?

Well. The difference simply put, is that wide shoes are specifically manufactured to be wider than normal. Believe it or not the length of a foot does not predetermine its width. Some people have very narrow feet, others have big wide fat ones. It is more common than some would think.

What types are there?

There are many companies that create shoes based solely (hehe?) on custom fitting for the width of peoples feet. For example: the Wide Clog, New Balance, ASICS,  Munro, Slippers and Clarks, just to name a few.

How do I pick a size?

In pretty much any shoe store you can have someone measure your foot for you. After they get you a size that feels right, test it out. Do a little walk around the store, make sure it feels good before you leave. You don’t want to have to return them later.

Wide Walking ShoesSizes available:

A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G. (A being the narrowest and G widest.)

Take good care of your feet!

I travel a lot, and I never really paid attention to the wear and tear of having standard non-custom fit shoes on my feet. A few years ago I ran into some trouble where my feet would start to ache at night. And no I wasn’t out prancing around in 5-inch pumps (I know thats what you were thinking). Although, I do have a whole new respect for you ladies, wearing heels and other fashion oriented but comfort restricting types of shoes. I don’t know how you do it.

But, I digress. I was wearing your every day standard dress shoe or running sneaker, something I felt was comfortable at the time of purchase. Never thinking twice about it, until the pain started to become unbearable . An acquaintance of mine was having a similar problem and I stumbled into a conversation with him about it. I started learning a bit about these wide walking shoes which I never knew existed. Hopefully, my posts can help you learn a thing or two about them as well. Thank you for reading.

Wide Sizes

Shoe size is a number representing the fit of a particular shoe on a person. Many shoe sizes are only for the length of a shoe because it is more expensive to manufacture shoes in many widths. However there are now a good number of brands that offer wide sizes. An example of a good brand with wide sizes for men and women is Clarks.

There is not a standard system for wide sizes because many major brands are not interested in the wide shoe market.

The system used by Clarks and other quality brands is: N (narrow), M (medium) or R (regular), W (wide), W (double wide). Wide and double wide are great wide sizes for people who need comfortable shoes.

Another common wide size system is: A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G. A is a very narrow shoe, E is a comfortable wide size for many people, EE through G are even wider to accommodate wide feet of all types.

One more less common size system is: 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5E, 6E. 4A is the narrowest size and 6E is the widest.

The international standard for shoe size is called Mondopoint. It is detailed in ISO 9407:1991. A shoe size in this system is the average length of the foot / the average width in millimeters. An example size is 300/100, this means an average length of 300 millimeters and an average width of 100 millimeters. This system is not used anywhere in the world for civilian shoes, it is mainly used by NATO and other militaries.

A rule of thumb when buying wide shoes is to look for at least one W or E.
