All about Wide Walking Shoes

Wide Walking Shoes that are comfortable, can essentially be the difference in whether or not you get the necessary exercise your body craves.

What is the difference between a wide shoe and a regular shoe?

Well. The difference simply put, is that wide shoes are specifically manufactured to be wider than normal. Believe it or not the length of a foot does not predetermine its width. Some people have very narrow feet, others have big wide fat ones. It is more common than some would think.

What types are there?

There are many companies that create shoes based solely (hehe?) on custom fitting for the width of peoples feet. For example: the Wide Clog, New Balance, ASICS,  Munro, Slippers and Clarks, just to name a few.

How do I pick a size?

In pretty much any shoe store you can have someone measure your foot for you. After they get you a size that feels right, test it out. Do a little walk around the store, make sure it feels good before you leave. You don’t want to have to return them later.

Wide Walking ShoesSizes available:

A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G. (A being the narrowest and G widest.)

Take good care of your feet!

I travel a lot, and I never really paid attention to the wear and tear of having standard non-custom fit shoes on my feet. A few years ago I ran into some trouble where my feet would start to ache at night. And no I wasn’t out prancing around in 5-inch pumps (I know thats what you were thinking). Although, I do have a whole new respect for you ladies, wearing heels and other fashion oriented but comfort restricting types of shoes. I don’t know how you do it.

But, I digress. I was wearing your every day standard dress shoe or running sneaker, something I felt was comfortable at the time of purchase. Never thinking twice about it, until the pain started to become unbearable . An acquaintance of mine was having a similar problem and I stumbled into a conversation with him about it. I started learning a bit about these wide walking shoes which I never knew existed. Hopefully, my posts can help you learn a thing or two about them as well. Thank you for reading.

Wide Sizes

Shoe size is a number representing the fit of a particular shoe on a person. Many shoe sizes are only for the length of a shoe because it is more expensive to manufacture shoes in many widths. However there are now a good number of brands that offer wide sizes. An example of a good brand with wide sizes for men and women is Clarks.

There is not a standard system for wide sizes because many major brands are not interested in the wide shoe market.

The system used by Clarks and other quality brands is: N (narrow), M (medium) or R (regular), W (wide), W (double wide). Wide and double wide are great wide sizes for people who need comfortable shoes.

Another common wide size system is: A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G. A is a very narrow shoe, E is a comfortable wide size for many people, EE through G are even wider to accommodate wide feet of all types.

One more less common size system is: 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5E, 6E. 4A is the narrowest size and 6E is the widest.

The international standard for shoe size is called Mondopoint. It is detailed in ISO 9407:1991. A shoe size in this system is the average length of the foot / the average width in millimeters. An example size is 300/100, this means an average length of 300 millimeters and an average width of 100 millimeters. This system is not used anywhere in the world for civilian shoes, it is mainly used by NATO and other militaries.

A rule of thumb when buying wide shoes is to look for at least one W or E.

Wide Shoe

A wide shoe is any shoe in any size that has been manufactured to be wider than the normal shoe. Just as adults have a wide range of foot length, people also have a wide range of foot width.

Some people have feet that are more narrow than a standard shoe and can alleviate their problem by purchasing a narrow shoe, wearing an extra pair of socks, or by adjusting their gait. A far more serious problem is experienced by the vast number of people who have feet that are wider than average. Wearing a standard width shoe when you have wide feet can lead to great discomfort and serious medical problems – even foot amputation. For these people it is absolutely essential that they avail themselves of wide shoes. Wide shoes are available in many sizes at a number of specialty stores on the internet.

But just as there is great variance in foot length and width between individuals, every person’s left foot is different from their right foot. It is very common for one foot to be longer or wider than the other foot. If one foot is wider than the other foot and normal shoes are worn, the wide foot will experience pain and swelling. This can lead to trouble doing even the most simple tasks like walking. If left untreated, one wide foot will certainly lead to back or leg injuries. However, treatment is very simple! A person thus afflicted must shop for a wide shoe that fits their foot properly and comfortably. Usual wide shoe sizes are E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, and G. There is nothing standing in your way of having a comfortable life with a good wide shoe.

Wide Slippers

Wide slippers are comfortable footwear usually worn inside the house. They are easy to put on and take off. Many people wear wide slippers to keep their feet warm and to protect their feet from normal household hazards like broken glass. Some slippers can even be worn for light gardening or to step outside quickly to get the mail or greet guests. Slippers are a great, versatile form of footwear!

People who do not have wide feet take the great comfort and convenience of slippers for granted. Wide slippers are not generally available for purchase at department stores or small boutique shoe stores. However, the saavy wide footed person can find comfortable wide slippers at specialty stores and on the internet.

Wide slippers are available in all styles and colors. Slippers can be found in all widths including A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, and G. It’s important to have a well-fitting slipper to fully enjoy the comfort and convenience of slippers so never assume that a one-size-fits-all slipper is really the right fit for you.

With a small amount of effort people with all shapes and sizes of foot can find slippers that truly enhance their enjoyment of indoor life. Find your wide slippers today!

Wide Footwear

Many people find that regular footwear is not comfortable to wear. this is because standard shoe sizes do not take the width of the foot in to account, only the length. There are many reasons that a person would need wide footwear including medical reasons and body type. The most common reason, however, is that human feet do not all have a common width.

All types of footwear are available in wide sizes. There are wide boots, wide shoes, wide sandals, wide slippers, wide climbing shoes, wide high-heels and many more.

It is very important for everyone to have footwear that is comfortable and fits well. If you have wide feet you must wear wide footwear. Wearing shoes that are not a good fit for the width of your feet will lead to discomfort and can ultimately lead to medical problems caused by the improper fit of the footwear. If your shoes are too tight they can swell up and cause an even worse fit and more problems. You can also develop nerve damage in your feet if you do not wear wide footwear.

In most countries, shoe sizes do not normally include the width. There is no standard system for sizing the width of shoes.

  • A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G. In this system, A is the narrowest shoe and G is the widest shoe. Many people who need wide footwear should try the EE and EEE sizes.
  • 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5E, 6E.
  • N (narrow), M (medium) or R (regular), W (wide). This size system only has one designation for wide footwear so it is better to purchase shoes that use a different system to get the best fit for your wide foot.

Wide Clogs

Wide clogs are designed to accommodate your foot comfortably. Clogs are a type of shoe traditionally made out of wood. They can also be made out of leather or rubber. Wooden clogs are the shoes worn to perform a clog dance (clogging).

Today, clogs are often a comfortable shoe made to slip on easily. This is an ideal shoe for a wide foot. These slip-on clogs are often made of leather or rubber. Wide rubber clogs are great shoes for gardening because they are easy to clean.

Clogs can also be used for foot protection in factories or farms. The traditional wooden clog offers good foot protection but modern clogs may have steel toes or steel reinforcing inserts.

Traditional clogs (or “wooden shoes”) are often associated with the Netherlands and are a popular souvenir among tourists. However, most Dutch people do not wear clogs for everyday use.
