Wide Footwear

Many people find that regular footwear is not comfortable to wear. this is because standard shoe sizes do not take the width of the foot in to account, only the length. There are many reasons that a person would need wide footwear including medical reasons and body type. The most common reason, however, is that human feet do not all have a common width.

All types of footwear are available in wide sizes. There are wide boots, wide shoes, wide sandals, wide slippers, wide climbing shoes, wide high-heels and many more.

It is very important for everyone to have footwear that is comfortable and fits well. If you have wide feet you must wear wide footwear. Wearing shoes that are not a good fit for the width of your feet will lead to discomfort and can ultimately lead to medical problems caused by the improper fit of the footwear. If your shoes are too tight they can swell up and cause an even worse fit and more problems. You can also develop nerve damage in your feet if you do not wear wide footwear.

In most countries, shoe sizes do not normally include the width. There is no standard system for sizing the width of shoes.

  • A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G. In this system, A is the narrowest shoe and G is the widest shoe. Many people who need wide footwear should try the EE and EEE sizes.
  • 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5E, 6E.
  • N (narrow), M (medium) or R (regular), W (wide). This size system only has one designation for wide footwear so it is better to purchase shoes that use a different system to get the best fit for your wide foot.
